The Donauinsel is an artificial island 21.1 km long and 70-210 m wide, built between 1972 and 1988 as part of the Vienna flood-protection scheme separating the Danube from the Neue Donau. Its technical role quickly turned into a primary leisure space for the Viennese and a leading backdrop for the city's summer culture.
The island offers 40 km of cycling paths, public bathing areas, naturist beaches, restaurants on the water and the famous Copa Beach bars by the Reichsbrücke. On the last weekend of June it hosts the Donauinselfest — the largest free open-air music festival in Europe, drawing around three million visitors over three days across more than a dozen stages with more than 600 acts.
The island also serves as a venue for the Vienna City Marathon route, triathlons, firework displays and everyday summer evenings of Viennese residents.
The drive from Vienna Airport to the Donauinsel covers about 18 km and usually takes 25-35 minutes. The route follows the A4 motorway and the A23 Südosttangente, then continues via Praterstraße or the Reichsbrücke to the chosen section of the island.

The Donauinsel has several access points — the Reichsbrücke (centre, Copa Beach), the Floridsdorfer Brücke (north of the island) and the Praterbrücke (south) — so the chauffeur can stop close to your chosen activity zone.
After landing, your chauffeur meets you in Terminal 3 arrivals with a name board, assists with luggage and drives directly to the chosen island zone. For festival guests the standard drop-off is at the Reichsbrücke (Copa Beach and main stages), for leisure guests at the Floridsdorfer Brücke (family beaches) and for sport guests at the bridge-foot car park giving access to the cycling paths.
We also handle Donauinselfest transfers from Innere Stadt hotels, combined Donauinsel + Prater routes for a family day, and late returns after concerts. A transfer to the Donauinsel suits premium guests looking for outdoor activity, couples on a romantic day by the water, families with children and Donauinselfest attendees.
It should be punctual, discreet and aligned with the multi-section logistics of an island without a single centre.
