We regularly serve the SIGMUND FREUD MUSEUM — the apartment and psychoanalytic consulting room of Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) at Berggasse 19/5/6, where Freud lived and worked from 1891 until his emigration to London in June 1938 (this is where psychoanalysis was born, where Freud met Sándor Ferenczi, Carl Jung, Ernest Jones and Marie Bonaparte — today a museum with the preserved original waiting room, four-leafed carpet, shirts and diplomas, an archive of 36,000 objects and the psychoanalytic library) and the ALLGEMEINES KRANKENHAUS (AKH) — the historic hospital complex built in 1784 by Emperor Joseph II, today one of the largest university hospitals in Europe (Medizinische Universität Wien, 7,000 beds, a complex of 49 buildings). Frequent destinations also include the STRUDLHOFSTIEGE (a historic 1910 staircase immortalised by Heimito von Doderer in his 1951 novel "Die Strudlhofstiege" — one of the most famous literary sites in Vienna), the Servitenviertel (a Gothic enclave with the Servitenkirche of 1670 and bohemian cafes), the Liechtenstein Garden Palace (Baroque palace of Prince Liechtenstein, today a private gallery) and hotels around the Sigmund-Freud-Park.
Alsergrund requires familiarity with the layout of Berggasse and the Strudlhofstiege. The Sigmund Freud Museum at Berggasse 19 is a historic residential building — the chauffeur drives to the main entrance from Berggasse, but the museum itself sits on the third floor (lift access). The AKH has separate entrances for different clinics — please share the department name at booking (e.g. Internal Medicine, Oncology, Paediatrics) so we can optimise the drive to the correct gate (main entrance at Währinger Gürtel 18-20). During morning (07:00-09:30) and afternoon (15:30-17:30) peaks, Währinger Strasse and Universitätsstrasse are congested with AKH and University of Vienna commuter traffic.
This route works well for psychoanalysis and Freud connoisseurs (the Sigmund Freud Museum is an absolute must-see for any enthusiast of the history of ideas — the authentic apartment of the founder of psychoanalysis, where the discipline was born; visitors from the US, Argentina and Germany travel to Vienna specifically for this visit), AKH patients (one of the largest university hospitals in Europe — international patients travel for specialist oncological, cardiological and transplant care), Strudlhof Steps clients (fans of Heimito von Doderer's 1951 novel — a cult literary site in Vienna), University of Vienna academic passengers (the campus is on the Ringstrasse, but Alsergrund is the classic student and academic neighbourhood) and guests of hotels around the Sigmund-Freud-Park. We operate 24/7. The fare is fixed and confirmed before travel; flight tracking, arrivals pickup with a name board and 60 minutes of waiting after landing are included. Payment is completed online by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or BLIK. Child seats, boosters and larger luggage space can be prepared on request.
