GDAńSK LECH WALESA AIRPORT · VENUE TRANSFER
Gdansk Airport (GDN) → Westerplatte transfer
Private transfer from Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport to Westerplatte. Fixed fare, flight tracking and a calm ride to the site of the first shots of WWII.
Westerplatte at ul. Mjr. Henryka Sucharskiego is a peninsula at the mouth of the Dead Vistula, where on 1 September 1939 at 4:45 am the German battleship Schleswig-Holstein opened fire on the Polish Military Transit Depot — the first shots of the Second World War. The Polish garrison, under the command of Major Henryk Sucharski and Captain Franciszek Dąbrowski, defended the position for 7 days, until 7 September.
Today the site features the 25-metre Monument of the Coast Defenders from 1966, the ruins of the guardhouse and barracks, and the Westerplatte Museum (a branch of the Museum of the Second World War). The address is one of Poland's most important memorial sites.
The transfer from Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport to Westerplatte covers about 18 km and usually takes 25-35 minutes. The route normally uses the Tricity ring road (S6), the Słowackiego expressway, ul. Marynarki Polskiej and Nowy Port, and then either the ferry crossing or the longer overland route via Stogi.
The final choice depends on live traffic conditions and the season, since Westerplatte is a peninsula with limited road access.

After landing, your chauffeur meets you in arrivals with a name board, assists with luggage and brings you to the parking area at the entrance to the open-air Westerplatte site. The entry zone is outdoors, with access to the ruins of the barracks, Guardhouse No. 1, the Cemetery of the Defenders and the monument.
The visit is on foot and covers several hectares, so it is sensible to plan around 90-120 minutes for the full programme.
A transfer to Westerplatte suits WWII history travellers seeking an authentic site, guests combining Westerplatte with the WWII Museum within a full-day programme, educational groups aged 14 and above and participants of the 1 September and 7 September commemorations.
After the visit we arrange pickup from the parking area and transfer to hotels in central Gdańsk, Wrzeszcz or Sopot. The route also combines very well with the Shipyard Workers' Monument and St Mary's Basilica within a one-day historical memory programme.
