Can you fly to Lviv, or is the road the only way in?
Ukrainian airspace is closed to civil aviation, so Lviv-Danylo Halytskyi Airport (LWO) handles no passengers and Polish airports have absorbed the city's air links - in Lower Silesia that means Wrocław Copernicus (WRO). Lviv itself can only be reached overland. The train involves getting to Przemyśl first and changing there with all your luggage; a coach from Wrocław takes 15-18 hours; and an ordinary Polish city taxi will not cross the border at all. A private car runs with no changes, at the hour you set, to a named address: Lviv-Holovnyi station, a hotel on Rynok Square, an office in the Frankivskyi district or the gate of Lychakiv Cemetery.
Which route do you take from Wrocław, and how long does it take?
The journey is 600 km and essentially one axis. The A8 ring road leads out of Wrocław, the A4 (E40) is joined at Bielany Wrocławskie, and you stay on it for roughly 515 km: Opole, Gliwice, Katowice, Krakow, Tarnów, Rzeszów, Łańcut, Przeworsk, Jarosław, Radymno. The motorway ends physically at the Korczowa - Krakovets crossing. On the Ukrainian side there are 76 km of the M-10 (E40), a single-carriageway road through Yavoriv and Navariia to the western Lviv bypass, where the pace drops noticeably. Driving time is 6.5-7.5 hours, with border clearance on top; in normal conditions the whole journey takes 7.5-10.5 hours.
How long is the wait at the border, and when do you leave Wrocław?
Korczowa - Krakovets is the direct continuation of the A4 and also the busiest crossing on this border: for cars, realistically 1-2 hours in a good window, 3-4 hours on a weekday and appreciably more at weekend peaks, above all on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. The quietest windows are overnight, roughly 02:00-05:00, and the middle of a working day. That is why departures from Wrocław are set very early - the 515 km of motorway are covered before the queue builds. The chauffeur checks the waiting times published by the Polish Border Guard at granica.gov.pl 60-90 minutes ahead and diverts to Budomierz - Hrushiv, 38 km north and open 24 hours, if the queue is growing.
What documents are required, and what is the situation in Lviv?
EU citizens need a valid passport - a national ID card is not accepted for entry into Ukraine and is the most common reason passengers are turned back at Korczowa. Visa-free travel covers 90 days in any 180-day period; travellers on other passports should check their own entry rules. The vehicle side is ours: registration document, the chauffeur's licence and motor insurance with a Green Card valid for Ukraine are assembled before every trip. As for conditions, the war continues, martial law applies and Lviv has a night-time curfew, so arrivals are planned with a margin and the current hours confirmed on the day. We drive for passengers making an informed decision and do not serve destinations east of Lviv.
