Route overview
Niepokalanow is a Conventual Franciscan monastery founded in 1927 by St Maximilian Maria Kolbe — the martyr of Auschwitz, canonised by John Paul II in 1982 for voluntarily giving his life for a fellow prisoner in the death block on 14 August 1941. The monastery houses the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate Mediatrix of All Graces, the Passion Mystery Play (staged every Good Friday, one of the largest in Poland), the seat of the Knight of the Immaculate publishing house (founded by Kolbe) and a museum with the saint's relics. 50 km via the A2 to the Mszczonow junction and local roads, 1 h - 1 h 15 min off-peak. The service runs 24/7. A standard plan: 9:00 hotel pickup, 10:00 Niepokalanow, Holy Mass (on Sundays at 10:30) or a tour of the monastery and museum (2 h), lunch in the monastic refectory, 13:00 return to Warsaw.
