The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lichen in Lichen Stary is the largest basilica in Poland and one of the largest in Europe — 120 m tall, with capacity for 17,000 faithful, a monumental bell tower and a plane-tree avenue leading to the main entrance. The cult of Our Lady of Sorrows Queen of Poland dates back to Marian apparitions in 1850 (the shepherd Mikolaj Sikatka), and the sanctuary draws around 1.5 million pilgrims a year from Poland and abroad. The complex also includes the Mausoleum of the Polish Army, the Way of the Cross, rosary gardens and a pilgrim hostel. 200 km via the A2 to Konin and then the DK25 to Lichen, 2 h 30 min - 3 h off-peak. The service runs 24/7. A standard plan: 8:00 hotel pickup, 11:00 Lichen, the pilgrim mass (daily at 11:30), basilica tour (1 h), the Mausoleum of the Polish Army, lunch in the refectory, 15:00 return to Warsaw.
