About this route
Route overview
Augustow is the gateway to the Augustow Lakeland and to one of the finest 19th-century technical monuments in Europe — the Augustow Canal, linking the Vistula and Neman basins over 102 km with 18 locks and weirs. Designed by Gen. Ignacy Pradzynski and built in 1824-1839, the canal runs through Lakes Necko, Bialy, Studzieniczne and Rospuda, with cruises on the boats "Augustow" and "General Pradzynski" (May-September season, 1.5-2 h, tickets from PLN 40). The Augustow Primeval Forest Landscape Park is the largest lowland forest area in Poland, and the Czarna Hancza kayaking complex offers Poland's best-known kayak trail. 250 km via the S8 to Bialystok and the S61 to Augustow, 3 h - 3 h 30 min off-peak. The service runs 24/7. A standard summer plan: 8:00 hotel pickup, 11:30 Augustow, a lake cruise (2 h at 12:00 or 14:00), lunch at a lakeside inn on Necko, 17:00 return to Warsaw or overnight stay. From EUR 950 in a Mercedes V-Class for 1-6 passengers.
