About this route
Route overview
A half-day detour off the usual UNESCO trail — Zalipie, the painted village in Dabrowa County, where since the late 19th century women have decorated cottages, wells, trees, chicken coops and even interiors with hand-painted floral motifs. The standard itinerary: 9:00 hotel or KRK airport pickup, 10:30 arrival in Zalipie (110 km, A4 to Brzesko junction, then DK73 and local roads), 10:45 start at the Felicja Curyowa Homestead (the most famous Zalipie painter, a house-museum with original polychromes from the 1950s-70s, interiors, tools, photographs), 11:30 the House of the Painters (cultural centre, exhibitions of contemporary Zalipie painters, a craft shop), 12:15 the Barn of the Painters (seasonal painting workshops on wooden boards, optional participation), 13:00 the Sacred Heart Church with polychromes inside, 13:30 lunch at the agritourism farm "Zalipianka" (home-made broth, stuffed cabbage, pierogi ruskie, cheesecake), 14:30 return drive, 16:00 hotel in Krakow. Five to six hours door-to-door. The best season is May to September, when the paintings are fresh after the spring renewal (every year after Corpus Christi the women refresh the motifs). The chauffeur knows the narrow rural roads and parking spots — Zalipie has no central car park, you pull up at each homestead. From EUR 320 in a Mercedes E-Class for 1-3 passengers, from EUR 420 in a V-Class for 4-6 passengers. Fixed price at booking.
