Route overview
A full day in the Tatras — Zakopane as the cultural and culinary capital of the Podhale region, plus Koscielisko with the most beautiful valley in the Polish Tatras. The standard itinerary: 8:00 hotel or KRK airport pickup, 10:00 arrival in Zakopane (110 km, Zakopianka highway DK47, guarded car park on Krupowki Street or near Antalowka), 10:15 walk along Krupowki (the main pedestrian street, wooden architecture, the Witkacy House from the outside, regional shops with oscypek cheese and shepherd axes), 11:00 ride on the Gubalowka funicular (1126 m above sea level, panorama of the High Tatras, open seasonally from 9:00, ticket around PLN 35) or the Kasprowy Wierch cable car (1987 m, longer option, slot booking required), 13:00 lunch at a highlander inn "Bakowo Zohylina" or "U Wnuka" (kwasnica soup, oscypek with cranberry, roast ribs, wild rose compote), 14:30 drive to Koscielisko (7 km, local road), 15:00 start of the Koscielisko Valley walk (the most beautiful valley in the Polish Tatras, 9 km return on a flat trail, average 2.5-3 h, asphalt to Stare Koscieliska clearing, then gravel path, Pisana Rock, Mrozna Cave optional, Ornak mountain hut as the end point), 17:30 end, 18:00 drive back, 20:00 hotel in Krakow. Nine to ten hours door-to-door. Note: the Zakopianka (DK47) on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings between April and October can be congested — the chauffeur plans the departure at 8:00 and the return after 18:00, avoiding the busiest window. From EUR 450 in a Mercedes V-Class for 1-6 passengers (the sensible choice for families and groups), from EUR 380 in an E-Class for 1-3 passengers. Fixed price at booking.
