About this route
Route overview
A full day for UNESCO collectors — both Lesser Poland salt mines, Wieliczka (800 years old, the most popular in Poland) and Bochnia (the oldest, far less crowded), in one carefully planned day with a private chauffeur. The standard itinerary: 8:30 hotel or KRK airport pickup, 9:15 arrival in Wieliczka (15 km, A4 motorway, Wieliczka exit), 9:30 start of the Tourist Route with a licensed guide (2 h 30 min, 800 steps down to 135 metres below ground, Saint Kinga's Chapel with salt sculptures, Lake Wessel, Saint Anthony's Chapel), 12:00 end of tour, 12:30 lunch at "Halicka" inn in Wieliczka or along the route (broth with home-made noodles, pierogi, fish in Greek-style sauce), 13:30 drive to Bochnia (30 km, DK94 and local roads), 14:00 start of the Bochnia mine tour with a guide — option A: Tourist Route (1.5 h, 250 steps down, historic chambers, Saint Kinga's Chapel in Bochnia), option B: a brine boat ride on the underground lake (45 min, an additional attraction), 16:00 end, 16:30 departure, 17:30 return to Krakow, 18:00 hotel. Eight hours door-to-door. Bochnia is less crowded than Wieliczka and has a more authentic industrial atmosphere (it was still operational until 1990), with chambers used seasonally as a respiratory sanatorium. The chauffeur waits at both mines, knows the car parks and helps with tickets. Both mines hold a steady 14 Celsius (light jacket). From EUR 380 in a Mercedes E-Class for 1-3 passengers, from EUR 480 in a V-Class for 4-6 passengers. Fixed price at booking.
