About this route
Route overview
Sucha Beskidzka is the gateway to the Maków and Middle Beskids — an intimate town holding two absolute architectural gems. The Renaissance Sucha Castle, nicknamed "Little Wawel" for the resemblance of its arcaded courtyard, is the 16th-century seat of the Komorowski family and today houses the town museum, library and a concert hall. Opposite stands Karczma Rzym from 1700 — the oldest surviving wooden inn in Poland, wrapped in the legend of Twardowski's pact with the devil (Goethe is said to have heard it en route to Italy and recast it in Faust). Sucha sits on the Beskid border: 12 km further lie Maków Podhalanski and Zawoja, the gate of Babia Gora; 15 km away is the Spaska ski resort; direct links to the Zakopianka push you toward Zakopane. 55 km via the Zakopianka S7 to Skawina, then DK28 to Sucha — 1 h - 1 h 15 min off-peak. The season runs year-round (winter for skiing, summer for trails). The service runs 24/7. The driver pulls up at the KRK terminal with a name board and delivers you to the castle gate or directly to Hotel Kasper Suski on the market square. Classic plan: KRK 10:00, castle 11:30-13:00, lunch at Karczma Rzym (Sucha pierogi) 13:00-14:30, afternoon in the Maków Beskid or return to Krakow.
