About this route
Route overview
Niedzica has guarded Poland's southern border since the 14th century — Dunajec Castle, perched on a cliff above Czorsztyn Lake, is one of the best-preserved frontier strongholds, wrapped in legends of Sebastian Berzeviczy's Inca treasure. Opposite, on the far bank of the lake, stand the ruins of Czorsztyn Castle — a tourist passenger ferry runs between the two. Five kilometres from the castle, at Sromowce Wyzne, the Dunajec Gorge rafting trip begins on traditional rafts (10 April to end of October). 145 km via the Zakopianka S7 to Nowy Targ, then DK49 to Niedzica — 2 h 15 min - 2 h 30 min off-peak. On summer weekends the Zakopianka between Myslenice and Rabka adds 30-45 min, so we recommend leaving KRK before 7:00. The service runs 24/7. The driver pulls up at the KRK terminal with a name board and delivers you to the castle gate or to Hotel Pieniny in Niedzica. A classic plan: KRK 7:00, castle 9:30-11:30, ferry to Czorsztyn, lunch, Dunajec rafting, return to Krakow or overnight in Czorsztyn.
