About this route
Route overview
Sandomierz is one of the best-preserved medieval old towns in Poland — listed as a national monument of history, with the 14th-century Opatowska Gate, the Gothic Cathedral Basilica, the town hall on the market square and the Saint Queen Jadwiga Gorge just outside town. Beneath the square runs the Underground Route — 470 m of 13th to 17th-century merchant cellars open to visitors. 220 km via the A4 motorway to Tarnow, then DK77 and DK79 to Sandomierz — 2 h 45 min - 3 h 15 min off-peak. The final 30 km on DK79 around Polaniec is single-carriageway and slower, with +20 min on Friday afternoons. The service runs 24/7. The driver pulls up at the KRK terminal with a name board and delivers you to the Opatowska Gate or directly to the Basztowy or Pod Cizemka hotel. A typical day: arrival into KRK, transfer to Sandomierz (3 h), Old Town tour with the Underground Route (3 h), dinner at Karczma Mala in the Dlugosz House cellars, return to Krakow or overnight stay.
