About this route
Route overview
Villach-Warmbad is the spa district of Villach (60 000 inhabitants), Carinthias second-largest city at the foot of the Karawanken on the Austrian-Slovenian-Italian tri-border. Warmbad-Villach is home to Austrias only Urquellen — thermal water at 29°C welling up directly from the pool floor (not pumped from deep boreholes), retaining all its therapeutic properties (sulphur, magnesium, lithium, fluoride). Four 4-5* hotels are linked directly to the spa by bathrobe corridors: Hotel Warmbaderhof 5*, Hotel Karawankenhof 4*S, Hotel Josefinenhof and Hotel Der Steinerhof. The spa has 11 pools (indoor and outdoor), 10 saunas, physiotherapy, massage and the Quellenresidenz reserved for hotel guests only (a no-ticket day). The region offers Wörthersee (16 km, Carinthias jewel — Pörtschach with Hotel Schloss Leonstain, Velden with Casino Velden, Klagenfurt with Lakeside Park), Faaker See (10 km, a turquoise lake with the Insel im Faaker See and Inselhotel Faakersee), the Karawanken mountains with untouched 2000+ m summits, the Slovenian border (Triglav National Park 50 km) and Italy (Tarvisio 30 km). 410 km via the A2 Süd-Autobahn and the A10/A11 to Villach, 4 h 15 min. The service runs 24/7, flight tracking from VIE. From EUR 1200 in a Mercedes E-Class one-way for 1-3 passengers, from EUR 1400 in a V-Class for 4-6.
