About this route
Route overview
Lech-Zürs am Arlberg is the discreetly elite sister to St Anton on the other side of the Arlberg pass — Lech (1500 inhabitants, 1444 m) and Zürs (170 winter-only inhabitants, 1716 m) together form the most exclusive and intimate resort on the Arlberg. Linked to St Anton in December 2016 by the new Flexenbahn gondola — fully integrated into the 305 km Ski Arlberg, yet Lech-Zürs keeps a quieter, more private atmosphere. Lech-Zürs is famed for family-run ski culture (the same family has run the same hotel for four generations), refined Alpine cuisine and a guest list that has included Princess Diana with her sons (regular winter trips 1990-1997), the Dutch royal family (the Hotel Post Lech complex), Maxima and Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, opera singers and discreet European business elites. Iconic five-star hotels: Hotel Schwarz Adler (Lech, the Strolz family since 1937), Almhof Schneider 5* (Tannberg 59, the Schneider family — the Alps most famous design hotel of wood, stone and contemporary art), Hotel Post Lech 5*S (Dorf 11, the Moosbrugger family since 1937, the Royal Suite for the Dutch royal family), Hotel Aurelio Lech (Tannberg 130, super-luxury 22 suites) and Hotel Arlberg Lech. Strolz Skischule and Strolz Sport Lech are a legendary family ski boot business (since 1921, bespoke ski boots for European royalty). 590 km via the A1, A12 and S16 through the Arlberg tunnel, the Langen am Arlberg exit and a 14 km switchback up the Flexenpass via Zürs, 6 h. The service runs 24/7, flight tracking from VIE, winter tyres from November, chains mandatory from December. From EUR 1700 in a Mercedes E-Class one-way for 1-3 passengers, from EUR 2000 in a V-Class for 4-6 (winter and New Year surcharge applies).
