About this route
Route overview
The Prague Airport–Karlštejn route is the classic day-trip to the most iconic gothic stronghold in the Czech lands. Karlštejn — built in 1348 by Emperor Charles IV — was chosen as the safekeeper of the Imperial Crown Jewels of the Holy Roman Empire and the holiest relics of Christendom. Today it stands as the largest and most recognisable Czech castle, a symbol of the kingdom's medieval power. The drive along the D5 motorway takes around 35 minutes in light traffic. From a premium guest's perspective it is the perfect half-day: the chauffeur meets you after landing, drives directly to the Karlštejn village, waits during the visit and brings you back to Prague or continues the itinerary. Highlights inside the castle include the Chapel of the Holy Cross with its gold mosaics and the original treasury of imperial regalia, the sixty-metre Great Tower keep, and the historic main street of Karlštejn village with its regional restaurants. We cover the route with Mercedes E-Class, S-Class or V-Class, with flight monitoring and 60 minutes of complimentary wait time after landing. Fixed price, chauffeur in dark suit, water and Wi-Fi on board.
