The three most famous castles of central Bohemia in one intensive day with a private chauffeur — from the Gothic residence of Charles IV to the medieval hunting castle in the Krivoklatska forest. Standard plan: 9:00 hotel pickup in Prague, 10:00 Karlstejn (45 km via D5 motorway, about 50 min) — the Gothic royal castle of Charles IV founded in 1348 as the treasury holding the Crown Jewels of the Holy Roman Empire (Emperor Charles IV placed the Imperial Regalia here until the 17th century), the Chapel of the Holy Cross with 129 saint portraits painted by Master Theodoric in early Gothic style, the Great Tower with the private bedroom of Charles IV, the Audience Hall with Gothic frescoes. 11:30 transfer to Konopiste (70 km, about 1 h). 12:00 Konopiste — a 14th-century Gothic castle rebuilt in neo-Gothic style in the 19th century, from 1887 the private residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Habsburg (heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne assassinated in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914 — which directly started the First World War), an extraordinary collection of 300,000 hunting trophies from the Archduke hunts on four continents, a hunting weapons collection from the 17th-19th centuries, the Trophy Hall with dozens of heads of deer, bears, African lions, the Archduke bedroom with authentic 1914 furniture. 14:00 lunch at Restaurant U Zamku next to Konopiste (Czech cuisine, game, knedliky, Bernard beer). 15:00 transfer to Krivoklat (75 km, about 1 h 15). 16:00 Krivoklat — a 13th-century Gothic royal castle in the Krivoklatska Forest Landscape Park, one of the best preserved Gothic residences in the Czech Republic, the Gothic hall with a 14th-century wooden vault, the castle chapel with Gothic altars, a Gothic tapestry collection, a library of 53,000 volumes. 17:00 return to Prague (70 km via D6 motorway, about 1 h).
