About this route

Route overview

The three most famous castles of central Bohemia in one intensive day with a private chauffeur — from the Gothic residence of Charles IV to the medieval hunting castle in the Krivoklatska forest. Given the length of the day and the comfort of a 3-stop rotation, we recommend the Mercedes V-Class. Standard plan: 9:00 hotel pickup in Prague, 10:00 Karlstejn (45 km via D5 motorway, about 50 min) — the Gothic royal castle of Charles IV founded in 1348 as the treasury holding the Crown Jewels of the Holy Roman Empire (Emperor Charles IV placed the Imperial Regalia here until the 17th century), the Chapel of the Holy Cross with 129 saint portraits painted by Master Theodoric in early Gothic style, the Great Tower with the private bedroom of Charles IV, the Audience Hall with Gothic frescoes. 11:30 transfer to Konopiste (70 km, about 1 h). 12:00 Konopiste — a 14th-century Gothic castle rebuilt in neo-Gothic style in the 19th century, from 1887 the private residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Habsburg (heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne assassinated in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914 — which directly started the First World War), an extraordinary collection of 300,000 hunting trophies from the Archduke hunts on four continents, a hunting weapons collection from the 17th-19th centuries, the Trophy Hall with dozens of heads of deer, bears, African lions, the Archduke bedroom with authentic 1914 furniture. 14:00 lunch at Restaurant U Zamku next to Konopiste (Czech cuisine, game, knedliky, Bernard beer). 15:00 transfer to Krivoklat (75 km, about 1 h 15). 16:00 Krivoklat — a 13th-century Gothic royal castle in the Krivoklatska Forest Landscape Park, one of the best preserved Gothic residences in the Czech Republic, the Gothic hall with a 14th-century wooden vault, the castle chapel with Gothic altars, a Gothic tapestry collection, a library of 53,000 volumes. 17:00 return to Prague (70 km via D6 motorway, about 1 h). EUR 650 Mercedes V-Class up to 7 passengers. Service runs 24/7 with flight tracking if pickup is at PRG.

  • WWI historians and admirers of Archduke Franz Ferdinand — Konopiste is his private residence with authentic 1914 furniture and the hunting trophy collection
  • Guests of the Holy Roman Empire crown jewels — Karlstejn is the historic storage place of the imperial regalia from 1357 to 1620

Common questions

FAQ

Are admission tickets to the three castles included in the transfer price?

No — admission tickets are paid separately: Karlstejn Route I (Charles IV Gothic apartments) CZK 220 per adult, Route II (Chapel of the Holy Cross, online reservation mandatory at least one month ahead, April-October season) CZK 380. Konopiste Route II (Franz Ferdinand apartments) CZK 290, Route III (Hunting Trophy Hall) CZK 250. Krivoklat Route I CZK 250. A combined three-castle ticket does NOT exist — all are paid separately. The transfer (EUR 650 V-Class) covers the chauffeur, vehicle, flight tracking if pickup is at PRG and 7 hours of waiting.

Can the plan be changed — skip Krivoklat and add Mnisek pod Brdy Chateau?

Yes. The classic three-castle plan is dense — skipping Krivoklat (the last castle of the day) shortens the plan to 7 h at EUR 580 E-Class. Adding Mnisek pod Brdy Chateau (17th-century Baroque, 25 km from Karlstejn, 1 h tour) carries no surcharge in place of Krivoklat. Alternative: only Karlstejn + Konopiste in 7 h for EUR 480 E-Class (for guests who prefer a deeper two-castle visit over a faster three-castle overview). We tailor the plan to guest preferences after an initial conversation.

My flight arrives early morning at PRG — does the same-day plan work?

Yes — landing at PRG 6:00-8:00, transfer to the hotel and luggage drop (20 km, 30 min), tour start at 9:00. The plan runs 9 hours, so a return around 18:00 leaves time for dinner in Prague. We track the flight in real time, 60 minutes of free waiting after landing is included. Service runs 24/7. Karlstejn is open April-October Tuesday-Sunday 9:00-17:00, November-March weekends 10:00-16:00, Monday closed. Konopiste is open April-October Tuesday-Sunday 9:00-17:00, November-March closed. Krivoklat is open April-October 9:00-17:00, November-March weekends 10:00-15:00. In the winter season we modify the plan or move to other castles available year-round (we keep the fixed price).

Can I add a stop on route Prague (hotel) or Prague-Vaclav Havel Airport (PRG) -> Karlstejn -> Konopiste -> Krivoklat -> Prague hotel?

Yes. Planned stops and waiting windows can be included within a single booking.

Will I receive route confirmation before pickup?

Yes. Core timing and operational details are confirmed before dispatch.
