About this route

Route overview

The first UNESCO Global Geopark of the Czech Republic in one nature day with a private chauffeur — Cesky Raj (Bohemia Paradise), a 181 km2 Landscape Park inscribed on the UNESCO Global Geoparks list in 2005, where sandstone rocks shaped over 100 million years create a fairytale landscape. Given the nature of the tour (4 locations plus walks) we recommend the Mercedes V-Class with space for backpacks and change of shoes. Standard plan: 9:00 hotel pickup in Prague, 10:30 arrival in Cesky Raj (90 km via D10 motorway, about 1 h 30). Park tour 4 h with four key stops: TROSKY CASTLE 10:30-11:30 — Gothic ruins of a 14th-century castle built on two basalt rock towers "Panna" (57 m high) and "Baba" (47 m), the icon of Cesky Raj and the symbol of the region, climb both towers up 145 steel steps with a 360-degree panorama of the whole Park (on a clear day the Karkonosze and Stolowe mountains). 11:30 transfer 10 km to PRACHOV ROCKS 12:00-13:00 — the most famous rock town of Cesky Raj, 16th-century sandstone formations shaped by water and wind, a labyrinth of canyons 1-3 m wide and 25-30 m high, a circular trail of 1 h with 8 viewpoints (Tocovice, Stara Cesta, Ceska, Holzworth, Map of the Republic — a natural relief map of the Czech lands). 13:00 transfer 8 km to an inn in Sobotka. 14:00 lunch at U Plavacka inn — Czech regional cuisine (svickova, vepro-knedlo-zelo, local Svijany beer, bramboraky potato pancakes). 15:00 transfer 5 km to KOST CASTLE 15:30-16:30 — the best preserved Gothic castle in the Czech Republic (from the 14th century), never conquered, on a sandstone rock spur, a collection of Gothic furniture and weapons from the 14th-17th centuries, a medieval kitchen with the original bread oven. 16:30 transfer 12 km to HRUBA SKALA 17:00 — a Renaissance palace on a rock spur above the valley from 1380, rebuilt in neo-Renaissance style in 1858, now a hotel, a panorama from the terrace of 100 km of the Jizera Valley. 17:30 return to Prague (90 km via D10 motorway, about 1 h 30). EUR 580 Mercedes V-Class. Service runs 24/7 with flight tracking if pickup is at PRG.

Best for

Most common use cases

  • Hikers and nature lovers — Cesky Raj is the first UNESCO Global Geopark of the country, 181 km2 of sandstone rock towns shaped over 100 million years, 4 locations in 8 hours is the optimal pace
  • Rock landscape photographers — Prachov Rocks and Trosky are two of the most photographed motifs in the country after Prague, the best photographic season is early morning and the hour before sunset
  • Castle plus nature combo guests — the plan combines 2 Gothic castles (Trosky + Kost), 1 Renaissance palace (Hruba Skala) and a sandstone rock town (Prachov) in one logical day

Common questions

FAQ

Are admission tickets to the castles and Prachov Rocks included in the price?

No — admission tickets are paid separately: Trosky Castle CZK 130 per adult (climb of Panna tower), Prachov Rocks Park ticket CZK 80 per person (circular trail 1 h), Kost Castle Route I (Gothic interiors) CZK 200, Hruba Skala palace park entry CZK 60 (hotel and viewing terrace free). A combined ticket does NOT exist. The transfer (EUR 580 V-Class) covers the chauffeur, vehicle, flight tracking if pickup is at PRG and 6 hours of waiting.

Can the plan be changed — skip Hruba Skala or add the Adrspach-Teplice Rocks?

Yes. The classic plan: 4 locations in Cesky Raj. Skipping Hruba Skala (the last stop of the day) shortens the plan to 7 h at EUR 520 E-Class. Adding the Adrspach-Teplice Rocks (the second rock town of the country, 50 km from Cesky Raj, 2 h tour) requires extending the day to 10 h for an EUR 80 supplement — this is an option for advanced hikers. We tailor the plan to guest preferences after an initial conversation. Note: in the November-March season the Prachov Rocks trails are icy — at that time we recommend a plan with greater focus on castles and less hiking.

My flight arrives early morning at PRG — does the same-day plan work?

Yes — landing at PRG 6:00-8:00, transfer to the hotel and luggage drop (20 km, 30 min), tour start at 9:00. The plan runs 8 hours, so a return around 18:00 leaves time for dinner in Prague. We track the flight in real time, 60 minutes of free waiting after landing is included. Service runs 24/7. Trosky Castle is open April-October Tuesday-Sunday 9:00-17:00, November-March weekends 10:00-15:00, Monday closed. Prachov Rocks are open year-round without park tickets (cash desk April-October 8:00-19:00). Kost Castle is open April-October 9:00-17:00, November-March closed. Hruba Skala hotel and terrace are accessible year-round 24/7.

Can I add a stop on route Prague (hotel) or Prague-Vaclav Havel Airport (PRG) -> Cesky Raj UNESCO Geopark -> Prague hotel?

Yes. Planned stops and waiting windows can be included within a single booking.

Will I receive route confirmation before pickup?

Yes. Core timing and operational details are confirmed before dispatch.
