About this route
Route overview
Kwiaton is a small Lemko village in the heart of the Beskid Niski whose Church of Saint Paraskeva was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013 — as a classic and almost canonical example of the western-Lemko type of sacred architecture. The shrine was raised in the second half of the 17th century, three-part with three tented domes over the sanctuary, nave and babynets, and was raised in the 19th century to proportions regarded as exemplary among Lemko tserkvas. The log fir structure, soboty galleries wrapping the body, shingle roof and a distinctive turret over the nave form a silhouette that appears on many tourist posters of the region. The interior carries a Baroque iconostasis of 1904 with a full iconographic programme, an 1811 wall painting cycle and icons transferred from an earlier shrine. 200 km via the A4 motorway to Tarnow, then DK28 to Gorlice and local roads to Kwiaton — 3 h off-peak. The service operates 24/7. The driver pulls up at the KRK terminal with a name board and delivers you to the tserkva.
