About this route
Route overview
Ischgl is an Austrian ski phenomenon — a village (1600 inhabitants) deep in the Tirolean Paznaun valley at 1377 m above sea level which has built itself into the loudest Alpine resort since the 1980s. The Silvretta Arena links Ischgl with Samnaun in Switzerland (the border is on the slope, with duty-free shops) — 239 km of slopes, 45 lifts, an altitude range from 1377 m to 2872 m (Greitspitze), and a guaranteed season from late November to early May. The Top of the Mountain Concerts are a category of their own: since 1995 the season opens and closes with world-class artists performing on Idalp at 2320 m — Elton John, Bon Jovi, Robbie Williams, Bocelli, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Rihanna, Pink, Mariah Carey, Sting, Lenny Kravitz and Deep Purple — 20 000-25 000 spectators in the snow, with entry included in the lift pass. Five-star superior hotels include Trofana Royal (Dorfstrasse 95, the von der Thannen family, two Michelin stars at Paznaunerstube, 84 rooms), Madlein (Madleinweg 2, discreet design), Hotel Post Ischgl, Schlosshotel Ischgl and Hotel Elizabeth. Restaurants: Paznaunerstube (two Michelin stars), Stüva, Trofana Alm and the legendary Schatzi Bar. 600 km via the A1, A12 and S16 motorways through the Arlberg tunnel (toll required), with the exit at Pians/Landeck and 30 km up the Paznaun valley to Ischgl, 6 h. The service runs 24/7, flight tracking from VIE, winter tyres from November, chains mandatory from December, V-Class ideal for ski luggage. From EUR 1700 in a Mercedes E-Class one-way for 1-3 passengers, from EUR 2000 in a V-Class for 4-6 (winter and Top of the Mountain surcharge applies).
