About this route
Route overview
Birmingham is the United Kingdom's second largest city and the economic heart of the Midlands — home to Jaguar Land Rover (Solihull, Coventry, Gaydon), the NEC (National Exhibition Centre), the ICC, the BIC and Genting Arena. From Heathrow the route runs north along the M40 and M42 motorways — 170-185 km, 130-175 min depending on time of day. Premium city hotels include Hyatt Regency Birmingham, The Grand Hotel Birmingham (Autograph Collection), Hotel Indigo and Park Regis. The NEC has its own slip road off the M42 J6, alongside Birmingham Airport — a convenient exit for trade fairs and conferences. Birmingham is also becoming the second hub of high-speed rail (HS2), and the JLR campuses around Solihull are served door-to-door without a change of vehicle. The driver pulls up to T2, T3, T4 or T5 according to your flight number and waits in the arrivals hall with a name board.
