About this route
Route overview
Lipnica Murowana is a jewel of Lesser Poland's wooden heritage — the Church of Saint Leonard, standing in the cemetery above the Uszwica river, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2003. The shrine was raised in the late 15th century from local fir, with a log nave and a post-and-frame tower. The interior is covered by stencilled wall paintings dated 1500 and 1689, three Gothic altars including the 1530 high altar with a Crucifixion group, and a 15th-century carving of Saint Leonard. The Lipnica market square itself is a 14th-century Gothic foundation, one of the few in Poland preserved at its original modest scale, ringed by 18th-19th-century timber Palm Sunday stalls. 50 km via the A4 motorway to the Bochnia junction, then DK75 and DW966 to Lipnica — 1 h - 1 h 15 min off-peak. During the 7-9 and 16-19 peaks the Bochnia approach adds 15-20 min. The service operates 24/7. The driver pulls up at the KRK terminal with a name board and delivers you to the parish gate by the market square. The most popular pairing is Lipnica plus Bochnia (UNESCO salt mine) in a single day.
