About this route
Route overview
Binarowa near Biecz is a hidden monument of Lesser Poland's wooden Gothic — the Church of Saint Michael Archangel was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2003. The shrine was raised at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries in larch, with a log nave, presbytery, soboty galleries and a post-and-frame tower preserved intact. The interior carries unique wall paintings from four eras: ornamental work of the 16th century, figurative 17th-century scenes including the Last Judgement, Baroque cycles of the 18th century and folk overpainting of the 19th century — a layering of painted programmes unmatched in any other wooden church in Poland. Six altars including the 1599 Renaissance high altar, Gothic carvings, a 1660 pulpit and a 16th-century sandstone font are originals. 130 km via the A4 motorway to Tarnow, then DK28 through Tuchow and Gorlice to Binarowa — 1 h 50 min - 2 h off-peak. Tourist weekends around Biecz add 15-20 min. The service operates 24/7. The driver pulls up at the KRK terminal with a name board and delivers you to the parish gate.
