About this route
Route overview
The Vistula Spit is a narrow dune strip separating the Vistula Lagoon from the Baltic — 55 km long, 1-2 km wide, partly Polish (as far as Krynica Morska) and partly Russian (Kaliningrad Oblast). The region's major novelty: the SHIPPING CANAL through the Vistula Spit (opened 17 September 2022) — a 1,300 m cut 5 m deep, bypassing Russian Kaliningrad. It is Poland's first connection from the Vistula to the Baltic without passing through Russian waters, a strategic state investment of around PLN 2 billion. The canal is open to visitors — a viewing platform above the locks, photos of passing ships. Krynica Morska is the spit's main resort — a wide white-sand beach, a long pier, a lighthouse (1955, viewing platform) and a seaside promenade. Stegna and Sztutowo are smaller resorts with solid tourist infrastructure. The Vistula Spit Landscape Park protects a unique dune and pine forest ecosystem. 80-100 km via the DK91 and DK501 along the spit, 1 h 15 min - 1 h 45 min off-peak. The service runs 24/7. A standard plan: 9:00 hotel pickup, 10:30 the Shipping Canal (viewing platform, 1 h), 12:00 Krynica Morska (beach, lighthouse, lunch at Albatros restaurant with fresh fish), 15:00 Stegna (beach walk, 1 h), 17:00 return to Gdansk. From EUR 450 in a Mercedes E-Class for 1-3 passengers, EUR 520 in a V-Class for 4-6.
