About this route
Route overview
Vlkolínec is the best-preserved wooden shepherd village of the Carpathians — 45 original buildings still inhabited by about thirty permanent residents, perched at 1000 m above sea level above Ružomberok. UNESCO inscribed the village in 1993 as a living example of traditional Central European settlement. The route from BTS runs via D1 motorway to Ružomberok, then a narrow third-class road climbs the Veľká Fatra massif. Most assignments are full-day (8–12 h) with the car on standby across Liptov, or a one-way drop for a multi-day programme (Vlkolínec + Liptovský Mikuláš + Demänovská caves). Mercedes E, S or V matched to the party.
