About this route
Route overview
Koszecin is a village near Lubliniec that has hosted, since 1953, the Stanislaw Hadyna Slask Song and Dance Ensemble — one of the most renowned folklore ensembles in Poland and an ambassador of Silesian and Polish culture worldwide (performances in 50+ countries, 8500+ concerts). The Ensemble is based in the Donnersmarck Palace — a Baroque-Classicist 18th-19th century residence that once belonged to the Silesian aristocratic Henckel von Donnersmarck family (one of the wealthiest families of 19th-century Europe, owners of Upper Silesian mines and ironworks). The palace is surrounded by a 60-hectare listed landscape park with an arboretum, ponds, alleys and natural monuments. Inside the palace are rehearsal halls, an archive of costumes and regional instruments, a restaurant and the Ensemble's concert hall. Once a month (September-June season) gala concerts of the Slask Ensemble open to the public — songs and dances of Polish regions, ethnographic costumes and choreography rooted in folklore research. 50 km via the DK11 road through Pyskowice to Koszecin, 1 h - 1 h 15 min off-peak. The service runs 24/7. A standard plan: 16:00 hotel pickup in Katowice, 17:30 lunch at the palace restaurant, 19:00 Slask Ensemble concert (1 h 45 min with an interval), 21:30 return to Katowice.
