ABOUT THIS TOUR

Vienna from Bratislava — Europe's nearest imperial capital

Vienna and Bratislava are Europe's only capital pair under 60 km apart. A shorter distance than Warsaw to Łódź, but two completely different historical worlds — the Habsburg Empire (Marie Antoinette born at the Hofburg, Sissi crowned at Schönbrunn, Mozart died on 5 December 1791 at Domgasse 5) versus the Slavic Castle and the SNP Bridge.

That is why we offer a different model. A Mercedes with private chauffeur is at your disposal for 8 hours. At 9:00 pickup at your Bratislava hotel (Sheraton, Marrol's, Park Inn) or directly from BTS airport after arrival. 60 minutes on the A4 and A6 motorways, the Berg–Petržalka border bridge — Schengen, 99% without checks. By 10:00 we are in the heart of imperial Vienna.

The plan is a starting point. The classic combination is Hofburg (the imperial palace, the Schatzkammer with the Habsburg crown) → Stephansdom (Gothic cathedral from 1147, 137 m terrace) → lunch at Café Central (heritage 1876, where Trotsky, Lenin, Freud all sat) → Schönbrunn (Maria Theresa's palace, 1441 rooms, the Gloriette garden) → Belvedere (Klimt's "The Kiss") → return across the SNP Bridge to Bratislava. Plan flexible: skip Belvedere for the Wiener Riesenrad, or swap Schönbrunn for the MuseumQuartier (Leopold Museum, mumok).

PRACTICAL INFO

What to know before the tour

Season

Vienna shows best between April and October. The hardest season: July-August (35°C, crowds at Schönbrunn). Winter: Wiener Christkindlmarkt in December, Opera in full season September-June. Optimal: May-June, September.

Schönbrunn — RESERVATIONS

The Imperial Tour has 30-60 min queues in summer. We book tickets for 8:00 (first session, almost empty) or 17:00 (after the rush hour). The Sisi Ticket (Schönbrunn + Hofburg + Imperial Furniture) is the best option — valid for one year.

Hofburg

Courtyard access is free. Schatzkammer (Habsburg crown, holy lance, jewels), Sisi Museum, Imperial Apartments — ticket EUR 16-20. Allow 2 hours for a calm visit.

Café Central

Reservation required 7 days ahead (14 days in high season). Heritage café from 1876 — Trotsky, Lenin, Freud and Stefan Zweig all sat there. The best table: the marble nook by the window, near the fountain.

Lunch

Lunch is not in the package. Suggestions ~EUR 60-130 per person (Café Central, Plachutta, Sacher, Demel). We can book the table in advance.

Dress

Comfortable shoes — Vienna has a lot of cobblestone in the Innere Stadt. Air-conditioned interiors at the palaces (Schönbrunn, Hofburg). For the State Opera there is a dress code (smoking not required, but formal preferred).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does the private Vienna tour take?

The standard tour is 8 hours — from 9:00 to 17:00. The plan can be adjusted: earlier start (e.g. 8:00 for an empty Schönbrunn) or later finish (e.g. until 23:00 after the Opera) on agreement.

What does the tour include?

Mercedes E-Class or V-Class with private chauffeur for 8 hours, fuel, motorway tolls, the Austrian vignette, all parking, water and USB-C on board. Licensed guide and Schönbrunn/Hofburg tickets are optional and quoted separately.

Is a guide included in the price?

Not in the base price. The chauffeur knows Vienna and drives you between points, but does not deliver formal historical narration. A licensed guide (EN/DE/PL/IT/ES) is + EUR 480 for 4-8 hours.

Are Schönbrunn tickets included?

No — optional. The Sisi Ticket (Schönbrunn Imperial Tour + Hofburg Imperial Apartments + Imperial Furniture Collection) is + EUR 105 per person. Without a ticket the Schönbrunn gardens are free + the Gloriette.

Does the Berg–Petržalka border slow the journey?

No. Berg–Petržalka is an internal Schengen crossing — 99% of the time without checks. If a random border check happens (rare, mostly in summer), we add 5-10 minutes to journey time, still inside the buffer.

What about lunch?

Lunch is not in the package. We suggest Café Central (heritage 1876), Plachutta (imperial Tafelspitz), Hotel Sacher (the original Sachertorte) or Demel (imperial pâtés) — roughly EUR 60-130 per person. Table booking is on us.

Where do you pick us up?

From any hotel or apartment in Bratislava. Most often Sheraton, Marrol's, Park Inn, Falkensteiner, Mama's Boutique Hotel — the chauffeur reaches any address within the city. Pickup from BTS airport on arrival is also possible.

Does the tour fit the day after BTS arrival?

Yes. Ideal model: morning flight to BTS (arrival 7-8:00), meet & greet in BTS arrivals, 60 min transfer to the hotel or directly to Vienna (skipping the hotel). Return to the Bratislava hotel in the evening.

What car will we get?

Mercedes E-Class (up to 3 passengers, business class) or V-Class (up to 6, spacious cabin). All vehicles have air conditioning, leather seats, Wi-Fi, USB-C and glass-bottled water.

Can we start earlier than 9:00?

Yes. Standard start is 9:00, but moving to 8:00 is highly recommended — an empty Schönbrunn at 8:30, the Innere Stadt before tourists wake up, lunch at 11:30 instead of 13:00. An earlier 15:00 finish is also possible.

Are children welcome?

Of course. The V-Class fits a family of 4-5 with luggage. Child seats are provided free with advance notice in the form — type and child age. Schönbrunn has a children's museum (Kindermuseum) and a maze — popular with families.

Can we extend to the evening State Opera?

Yes — this is a classic option. Tickets to the Staatsoper (parterre EUR 200-400, balcony EUR 60-120) booked 30 days ahead. The tour extends to 23:00 — the chauffeur waits for the end (around 22:30) and drives back to Bratislava. + EUR 85 per extra hour.

What if the weather is bad?

We adapt the plan. A rainy day means more time at Schönbrunn (40 imperial rooms), the Hofburg (Schatzkammer + Sisi Museum), Café Central (heritage interior), MuseumQuartier (Leopold Museum, mumok). The chauffeur drops at every entrance — dashes in the rain are minimal.

Can Bratislava be added in the middle?

The standard tour starts and ends in Bratislava. A 'one-way' model is also possible: stay in Vienna, the chauffeur takes the luggage back to the Bratislava hotel, the guest continues from Vienna independently (last Westbahn 22:00).

How do I book?

Send the form with the date, group size, your Bratislava hotel and any add-ons (guide, Sisi Ticket, lunch, Opera). We respond within 2 hours with availability and the full quote.

TESTIMONIALS

What our guests say

Vienna 'on the way' from Bratislava sounded like extravagance — it was a revelation. By 10:00 we were almost alone in the Hofburg, lunch at Café Central with imperial milk coffee, Schönbrunn at 14:00 without queues (the chauffeur had booked the Imperial Tour). In the evening we crossed the SNP Bridge with a view of Bratislava. Best day-trip of our stay.

Anna and Marek S. Warsaw

We left BTS airport at 9:00 — meet & greet in the arrivals hall, Berg–Petržalka border without checks, an hour on the A4 and we were in the Innere Stadt. 8 hours of Vienna, dinner at Plachutta with Tafelspitz (booked by the chauffeur), back in Bratislava at 22:00. Sissi would have been jealous.

Krzysztof B. Kraków

Three generations, one day — grandma (78) on the Schönbrunn balcony looking at the Gloriette gardens, the kids loved the maze, we went to the Opera in the evening. Mercedes V-Class with five passengers, child seats, lunch at Sacher with Sachertorte. A trip I will remember forever.

The Wójcik family Gdańsk

For a first-time visitor to Vienna, a private day trip from Bratislava is a revelation. Instead of 6 hours by train with the chaos of the central station, the chauffeur drops you straight at the Hofburg. Belvedere with Klimt's 'The Kiss' at the very end — afternoon light on the painting, impossible to forget.
