About this route
Route overview
Stonehenge is a UNESCO World Heritage Neolithic stone circle dating back roughly 5,000 years (3000-2000 BC) — one of the world's most recognisable archaeological sites. From Heathrow the route runs along the M3 and A303 — 130 km, 1h 30min to 2h 15min depending on time of day. The A303 is a single carriageway and weekend tourist traffic in season can be heavy — we build in a 30-60 min buffer above the standard. English Heritage operates the site and requires a pre-booked entry slot — we synchronise the transfer with your time slot. The driver waits 2-3 hours while you visit and returns to London or continues to Bath (about 50 km, a further 50 min) — Stonehenge + Bath + Avebury (a connected UNESCO complex) is a popular full-day combination. Salisbury Cathedral, home to an original Magna Carta, is 10 km from the stones. Summer and Winter Solstice events (June and December) include special pre-dawn ceremonies with restricted access. Local hotels: Holmewood House in Salisbury, The White Hart Inn and Avon Lake. The driver pulls up to T2, T3, T4 or T5 according to your flight number and waits in the arrivals hall with a name board.
