KUTNÁ HORA IN ONE DAY

A Mercedes with private driver waits at your hotel at 9 AM and reaches Kutná Hora in one hour via the D11 motorway and route I-2. Along the way: Sedlec Ossuary (a chapel decorated with 40,000-70,000 human bones), the Late Gothic Cathedral of St Barbara, and the Italian Court (Vlašský dvůr) — the royal mint where the Bohemian groschen was struck.

ABOUT THIS TOUR
Kutná Hora lies 80 kilometres from Prague — the train takes an hour, but Kutná Hora hl. n. station is 3 kilometres from the centre and Sedlec Ossuary another kilometre the other way. Without a taxi, a day that was supposed to be a quiet walk through a medieval town turns into a chain of transfers between train, local bus and the march between sights.
We propose a different model. A Mercedes with a private driver is at your disposal for 8 hours. We pick you up at your hotel at 9 AM and reach Kutná Hora in 60 minutes via the D11 motorway and route I-2. The rest of the day is yours: Sedlec Ossuary (a chapel decorated with 40,000-70,000 human bones in a 14th-century Gothic interior), the Cathedral of St Barbara (Late Gothic, 14th-15th century, UNESCO 1995), lunch in the historic centre.
In the afternoon there is the Italian Court — seat of the royal mint where the Prague groschen (Bohemian Groschen) was struck from the 13th to the 15th century, exported across Central Europe. Optionally, the Czech Silver Museum with a medieval mine you can descend into wearing a miner's helmet. At 4 PM we head back, and by 5 PM we are at your Prague hotel — no tickets, no transfers, no stress.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Kutná Hora was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995 — the historic town centre, the Cathedral of St Barbara and the Cathedral of Our Lady at Sedlec. From the 13th to the 15th century, Kutná Hora was the second most important Bohemian town after Prague thanks to its rich silver deposits and the royal mint.
Kutná Hora is rewarding all year round. Spring and early autumn (April-June, September-October) offer optimal walking weather. Summer is very crowded (June-August); in winter, Sedlec Ossuary and St Barbara's have a unique atmosphere, but bring warm clothes.
An ossuary in the 14th-century Gothic Chapel of All Saints. The bones come from the cemetery around the monastery — people from across Bohemia were buried here after the plague of 1318 and the Hussite wars. František Rint arranged the bones in 1870, creating a chandelier, the Schwarzenberg coat of arms and an altar. Ticket ~7 EUR (140 CZK).
The cathedral of St Barbara, patron of miners. Construction began in 1388 and was completed in 1905 (delayed by the Hussite wars and the mining crisis). Architects: Jan Parléř, Matěj Rejsek, Benedikt Ried. 15th-century mining frescoes — a rarity in European sacred art. Ticket ~8 EUR (160 CZK).
Vlašský dvůr — the royal mint where the Prague groschen (Bohemian Groschen) was struck from the 13th to the 15th century. The name comes from Italian moneyers brought from Florence by Wenceslas II in 1300. Guided ticket ~7 EUR (140 CZK).
The medieval Hrádek silver mine, 14th century — 250 m of galleries, miner's helmet with lamp, constant temperature 8°C (bring a sweater). Combined ticket with the silver museum ~9 EUR (180 CZK). Not available to guests with claustrophobia.
FAQ
The standard tour runs 8 hours — from 9 AM to 5 PM. The plan can be adjusted: an earlier start (e.g. 8 AM) or later finish (up to 6 PM) are arranged individually. The drive from Prague is ~1h each way on the D11 motorway and route I-2.
Mercedes E-Class or V-Class with private driver for 8 hours, fuel, D11 motorway tolls, parking in Kutná Hora, driver waiting, water and USB-C charging on board. Tickets to Sedlec Ossuary, St Barbara's, the Italian Court, the mine and lunch are optional extras and quoted separately.
About 80 kilometres on the D11 motorway and route I-2. Drive time ~1h, slightly longer in rush hour. The route is easy and crosses the Bohemian plateau.
No — these are optional. Sedlec Ossuary ~7 EUR (140 CZK), St Barbara's ~8 EUR (160 CZK), Italian Court ~7 EUR (140 CZK), silver museum with mine ~9 EUR (180 CZK). We book tickets on your behalf in advance. Online booking 3-4 days ahead is recommended in season.
No — lunch is an add-on. We book a table at a restaurant in the historic centre (Restaurace Kutná Hora, Café Pivovar, Dačický) between 1 and 2 PM, lunch itself is ~50-90 EUR per guest. Czech cuisine in medieval interiors.
Yes — the Hrádek mine has been open to visitors since 1969, with 250 m of lit 14th-century galleries. Every visitor is given a miner's helmet with a lamp and a cape. The constant temperature is 8°C — bring a sweater. Not available to guests with claustrophobia or limited mobility.
Of course not. The plan is a starting point. Some guests prefer to skip the Ossuary and spend more time at St Barbara's, the Italian Court and the town centre. Decide before the tour or on site.
From any hotel or apartment in Prague. Most often hotels in the Old Town, Mala Strana, Vinohrady and New Town — the driver reaches every address within the city.
Mercedes E-Class (up to 3 guests, business class) or V-Class (up to 6 guests, spacious interior). All vehicles are air-conditioned and equipped with leather seats, WiFi, USB-C and glass-bottled water. With a 160 km round trip, comfort is the priority.
Yes. The standard start is 9 AM, but a shift to 8 AM is possible — particularly useful if you want an empty Sedlec Ossuary at opening time (9 AM in summer, 10 AM in winter).
Sedlec Ossuary can be unsettling for sensitive children under 8-9 — please consider. St Barbara's, the Italian Court and the mine (from age 6) are safe and engaging. The V-Class fits a family with two children and luggage. Child seats are provided free of charge — please specify type and age in the enquiry form.
No — Czechia is in the Schengen Area and the EU. An ID card is enough; we recommend keeping it on you, but routine border checks are not in place.
A short stop in Kolín (the Gothic Cathedral of St Bartholomew) or Český Brod is possible within the 8 hours. Larger combinations (e.g. Kutná Hora + Karlštejn) require an extra 3-4 hours and a separate quote.
We adapt the plan. A rainy day means more time in the interiors of Sedlec Ossuary, St Barbara's and the Italian Court, plus a longer lunch. The driver pulls up to every entrance — wet dashes are kept to a minimum. The mine is underground, so rain makes no difference.
Send the enquiry form with your preferred date, group size, Prague hotel and any add-ons (Sedlec, St Barbara's, Italian Court, mine, guide, lunch). We respond within 2 hours with availability and a full quote.
Yes — free cancellation up to 48 hours before the tour. Shorter notice may incur fees for booked tickets (some sites require advance payment) or the restaurant table.
TESTIMONIALS
Sedlec Ossuary was an intense experience — the chandelier with every bone of the body, the Schwarzenberg coat of arms made of skulls. Then St Barbara's with its mining frescoes. V-Class from Prague, tickets booked by the driver, lunch at Café Pivovar. A day you would never put together by train.
The Italian Court and the story of the Prague groschen was something I would never have found on my own. The guide showed us the preserved coin-striking stations and told the story of the Italian moneyers from Florence brought in by Wenceslas II in 1300. The driver waited at every entrance. Flawless.
Kutná Hora with two kids — we skipped Sedlec (our 10-year-old would have had nightmares), but the Hrádek mine was a hit. Miner's helmet, lamp, 250 m of 14th-century galleries — the kids were thrilled. Mercedes E-Class, patient driver, the day plan tailored around us.
We tried the train once — Kutná Hora hl. n. is 3 km from the centre, the local bus from Sedlec to St Barbara's runs every 30 minutes. The second time we took the Mercedes — door-to-door, the driver waited, lunch at Restaurace Kutná Hora was booked. The difference was dramatic.
