Kazimierz, Płaszów & Schindler's Factory — Private Jewish Kraków Tour

Three sites within Kraków's boundaries, three chapters of the same history: Kazimierz — the Jewish quarter with seven synagogues and the Remuh cemetery — the Płaszów camp, where survivors of the Kraków Ghetto were interned — and Schindler's Factory, now a history museum documenting the years 1939–1945. A private Mercedes V-Class connects all three in one day.

About the trip

What you will experience

Kazimierz, founded in the 14th century as a separate town, was for centuries the centre of Jewish cultural and religious life in southern Poland. By 1939 more than 60,000 Jews lived there. Today the district retains seven synagogues — including the Old Synagogue (museum), the Remuh Synagogue with its active cemetery, and the Isaac Synagogue — along with the cobblestones and tenements of the former Szeroka Street. The Płaszów camp, established on the grounds of two Jewish cemeteries in 1942 and expanded into a concentration camp in 1944, was passed through by more than 30,000 prisoners. The site today is a memorial park with a heritage trail and monuments. Schindler's Factory on Lipowa Street 4, operated by Oskar Schindler from 1939 to 1944, now houses the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków with the exhibition "Kraków — Under Nazi Occupation 1939–1945". The exhibition is among the most carefully developed museum narratives about daily life under occupation in Poland.

Programme

Daily plan

The tour begins in Kazimierz at 09:00 — the Mercedes V-Class collects the group from the hotel at 08:30 and reaches Kazimierz within a few minutes. The guided walk through the Jewish quarter runs until 11:30, covering the Old Synagogue (museum, permanent exhibition), the Remuh Synagogue and Remuh Cemetery with its Renaissance matzevot, the New Square (Plac Nowy) with the former ritual building, Szeroka Street, and buildings with historical plaques. At 11:30 the Mercedes V-Class drives to Płaszów — approximately 2 kilometres. The visit to the Płaszów memorial site runs from 11:45 to 13:00: the heritage trail through the former camp grounds, the monument to victims on the hill, the Grey House, and the guide's explanation of the camp's topography. At 13:00 a short break — the option to return to Kazimierz for lunch or travel directly to Schindler's Factory. At 13:45 entry to the Schindler's Factory Museum (4 Lipowa Street) — the "Kraków — Under Nazi Occupation" exhibition. The visit runs until 15:30. At 15:30 the driver collects the group from the museum and returns to the hotel — arrival at approximately 15:45.

Przewodnik

Twój ekspert

The tour is led by a licensed city guide specialising in the Jewish history of Kraków — both in its centuries-long dimension (Kazimierz) and in the dramatic years of 1939–1945 (Płaszów, Schindler). The guide adapts the narrative to the group's needs: families tracing their own history, researchers, and travellers visiting Kraków for the first time.

FAQ

Pytania o wycieczkę

Does the tour follow the film Schindler's List?

The Schindler's Factory Museum documents the history of the Nazi occupation of Kraków rather than the film itself. The tour includes filming locations (including parts of Kazimierz and the Płaszów area) which the guide discusses in their historical context.

Does the Schindler's Factory Museum require advance booking?

Yes — the museum is very popular and often sells out days in advance. We reserve tickets in advance when organising the tour.

Is the tour suitable for children?

Kazimierz and Płaszów are accessible for all age groups. The Schindler's Factory Museum contains documentation of the occupation, including emotionally difficult material — recommended for children aged 12 and above.

Can the Tempel Synagogue or Galicia Jewish Museum be added?

Yes — the programme can be extended on request. Please indicate preferences when booking.
