About the trip

What you will experience

The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum is a place of particular gravity: a testimony to atrocity and a site of remembrance for survivors and their families from across the world. Visiting Auschwitz I — the original camp established in 1940 — means walking ground where men, women and children from more than twenty European countries were imprisoned and murdered over nearly five years. This private tour from Kraków lasts five hours and is designed for those who wish to give their full attention to Auschwitz I alone: the "Arbeit macht frei" gate, Block 11, the Wall of Death, the gas chamber, and Crematorium I. The journey from Kraków is made in a Mercedes V-Class — a quiet, spacious vehicle that ensures comfortable travel in both directions. The driver drops the group at the museum entrance and waits nearby throughout the visit. A licensed museum guide — certified by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum — accompanies the group through the block exhibitions, provides historical context, and answers questions. The tour is available in Polish and English. As a private tour, there is no joining of public groups; the pace is your own and you may pause wherever you need to. After the visit, the driver collects the group and returns to Kraków.

Programme

Daily plan

The tour begins with hotel pickup in central Kraków at 08:30. The Mercedes V-Class travels west along the route to Oświęcim — approximately 70 kilometres from Kraków — arriving at the Auschwitz I museum entrance at around 09:45. After collecting entry tickets and meeting the museum guide, the visit begins at 10:00. The route takes in the permanent exhibition in Blocks 4 and 5 — documenting the crime through personal belongings, hair, shoes, luggage, and documents — followed by Block 11 with its standing cells and dark cells, the courtyard with the Wall of Death, and finally Crematorium I with its gas chamber, which survive in their original form. The visit concludes at approximately 12:30, leaving a few moments for quiet reflection near the memorial plaque before departing the museum grounds. At 12:45 the driver collects the group from the gate and the return journey begins. Arrival back in Kraków is expected at approximately 14:00.

Przewodnik

Twój ekspert

Every visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum requires the presence of a licensed museum guide — a requirement set by the museum itself to ensure historical accuracy. Our guides hold accreditation from the Museum Education Department and attend updated training annually. They know the history of each block, each exhibition, and each document on display. Their approach is calm and unhurried, adapted to the needs of the group — for those visiting for the first time as well as those returning for personal or family reasons.
