Komárno is a Slovak-Hungarian border city where the Habsburgs left the largest fortress in Central Europe — Pevnosť Komárno (Maria Theresa fortifications from the 18th century). A five-minute walk across the bridge leads to Komárom on the Hungarian side, while the heart of the city opens onto Európske nádvorie (European Square) with 45 architectural styles from across Europe. The BTS–Komárno route works best as a heritage day-trip for Habsburg fortification enthusiasts, for Slovak-Hungarian bilingual history and for a multi-day combo with Esztergom.
