ABOUT THE VISIT

An underground world that has left visitors breathless for 700 years

135 metres beneath the streets of Krakow lies an underground world that has taken visitors' breath away for over seven centuries. The Wieliczka Salt Mine — inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the first 12 sites in the world — is a cathedral carved from salt, an underground lake and kilometres of corridors filled with sculptures and chandeliers of crystal salt. A place that deserves an unhurried visit.

That is why we take you there in the style our clients have come to expect. We pick you up from your hotel door in Krakow, drive you in a comfortable Mercedes directly to the mine entrance and wait until you have finished exploring. No bus 304, no searching for stops, no crowded public transport.

This is not a coach excursion from a travel agency. This is a private experience — you, your companions and the underground world of Wieliczka. And when you emerge full of impressions, your Mercedes is waiting to take you for an optional lunch or straight back to your hotel.

Your day, your pace.

What is St. Kinga's Chapel?

St. Kinga's Chapel is the greatest attraction of the Wieliczka Salt Mine — an underground cathedral carved entirely from salt at a depth of 101 metres. Everything inside is made of salt: the chandeliers, the altar, the sculptures, the bas-reliefs inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, even the floor. The chamber is 54 metres long, 17 metres wide and 12 metres high. It is one of the most extraordinary underground spaces in the world.

What is the temperature inside Wieliczka Salt Mine?

The underground temperature is a constant 14–16°C all year round — whether it is a scorching summer or freezing winter on the surface. We recommend bringing a warm jacket or jumper, even in summer. The humidity is moderate and the mineral-rich air is considered therapeutic — the mine even has an underground sanatorium for respiratory conditions.

Is Wieliczka Salt Mine wheelchair accessible?

The Tourist Route begins with ~380 steps down, making it inaccessible for wheelchair users. An elevator is available at the end of the route. Visitors with limited mobility may find the uneven stone surfaces challenging. Please contact us when booking — we will help find the best solution for your needs.

Can I take photos in Wieliczka Salt Mine?

Yes, photography is allowed throughout the tourist route. Tripods and flash photography are prohibited in St. Kinga's Chapel (to protect the salt sculptures and chandeliers). A smartphone or camera without flash is perfectly sufficient — the chamber lighting is designed to look spectacular in photographs.

What is the difference between the Tourist Route and the Mining Route?

The Tourist Route is the main visiting trail — 3.5 km of corridors, St. Kinga's Chapel, the underground lake, salt sculptures and chandeliers. It takes 2–3 hours. The Mining Route is an interactive alternative — you explore in a hard hat with a headlamp, navigate narrower corridors and participate in simulated mining tasks. Both routes are fascinating, but the Tourist Route is by far the more popular and visually rich.

Can I visit Wieliczka Salt Mine and Auschwitz on the same day?

We do not recommend it. Both sites deserve your full attention and are completely different in character — Wieliczka is wonder and fascination, Auschwitz demands reflection and solemnity. Combining them in one day means rushing and emotional exhaustion. We are happy to organise both as separate, full-value excursions on different days.

TESTIMONIALS

What our guests say

St. Kinga's Chapel literally took our breath away — and when we emerged full of impressions, the driver was already waiting with water and a smile. No searching for buses, no rush. This is how sightseeing should be.

David & Emma R. Manchester

Our 8-year-old is still talking about the underground lake and salt sculptures. The driver helped with the pushchair, and after the mine took us to a lovely restaurant in Wieliczka. A fantastic day out!

The Andersons Chicago

Travelling solo, I wanted comfort without the hassle. Hotel pickup, Mercedes ride, tickets ready — zero logistics. After the mine I still had half a day for Kazimierz. Exactly what I needed.

Sarah K. Sydney

We brought our international clients for a team-building excursion. Mercedes V-Class, professional driver, flawless organisation. Our guests were deeply impressed — by the mine and by the level of service.
